It’s always heartwarming when technology and compassion intersect. As a gadget fiend, I love every cool widget, doodad, and thingamajig that comes my way, but it’s important to remember that tech can be used to great effect in the medical field. Like with WRIXO, a medical wristband that’s about to go live on Indiegogo on Tuesday, July 11th.

The concept behind WRIXO is beautifully simple: all of your vital health information, stored in the cloud, accessible through your wristband and delivered to a mobile device. It’s ideal for sufferers of mentally debilitating conditions who would struggle to provide emergency personnel with accurate and recent medical information. If the patient is wearing WRIXO, first responders can access medical histories, medication lists, doctors’ notes, and more.

The founder of WRIXO developed the band for people like his mother-in-law, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and wanders off. The wristband has allowed police to contact her family and return her home safely. As someone in a vaguely similar situation, the value of WRIXO is abundantly clear.

The Indiegogo campaign launches Tuesday, where George Shih and his team will be shooting for $35,000. There’s a preview available for viewing.
