We already know that the robot apocalypse will soon be upon us, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still use our plastic and metal friends to do our bidding in the meantime. After all, they don’t get frustrated with menial, repetitive tasks.

Case in point is the new Husqvarna Automower 305. The company that was once best known for its motorbikes is now better known for its lawn and garden equipment, appliances, and other similar machinery. Falling in line with this is the robotic lawnmower.

You’ve got a Roomba to vacuum your floors and you might have one of those robotic gutter-clearing bots too. Why not hire another robot to handle that patch of green stuff in the front yard too? The Automower 305 isn’t the prettiest thing in the world with its rather nondescript plastic body, but it should get the job done.

It’s more compact, weighing just seven kilos, and it’ll mow your lawn for forty minutes on a single charge. You don’t have to worry too much about your neighbors swiping it while it’s out on its duties either, since there’s a built-in anti-theft system. What you will need to worry about is the $2000 asking price. On the bright side, it’ll handle lawns up to 500 square meters (5300 square feet) in size. If you’ve got a lawn bigger than that, you’ll probably want a bigger robot.
