Ataribox Renamed Atari VCS, Preorders (Hopefully) Coming in April Dylan Duarte March 19, 2018 News, Press Release Back in December 2017, we reported that Ataribox preorders were about to go live. We then posted a few days later, reporting that the preorders had been delayed to an unspecified date. Four months later, the Ataribox is now officially the Atari VCS, and we now have a less-unspecified window for the preorders. The Atari VCS is the iconic company’s new retro-inspired gaming and entertainment platform. The plan is to show off the platform and its controller prototypes to press at this week’s Game Developers Conference in San Francisco and then hopefully reveal a preorder date for some time in April 2018. “With the Atari VCS name, we know how important it is to get everything completely right and that’s why we briefly paused an imminent launch late last year. It was a difficult decision with the countdown underway, but we weren’t willing to go forward with even one thing out of alignment. We hope that Atari’s fans appreciate our extreme attention to detail and are as excited about the Atari VCS as we are.” This is exciting news, and I’ll tell you why. News of the Atari VCS, then called the Ataribox, came hot on the heels of the ultra-successful NES Classic and SNES Classic. At the time, it felt like a way for Atari to cash in on the current trend by just pushing out a box with a selection of classic Atari games. Now it seems like they’re taking the time to turn this into something more than just a nostalgia machine. According to the press release, this new platform will change the way we interact with TV. While that seems like a tall order, I’m excited to see what they have in store. Share This With The World!
