Ataribox Preorders Go Live on Thursday Dylan Duarte December 11, 2017 News Nintendo’s SNES Classic is a big hit this holiday season, but maybe that’s not retro enough for you. Maybe the widely-demanded NES Classic isn’t even enough to satisfy your inner hipster. You want to go way back. You consider the Intellivision to be cutting edge. Well, until Magnavox re-releases the Odyssey, the Ataribox will have to satisfy your need for the games of yesteryear. Officially unveiled this past July, the Atari 2600-inspired gaming box will be available for preorder this Thursday, December 14th. The cool thing about the Ataribox is that it uses a custom AMD processor and it runs Linux, making it capable of playing mid-range PC titles as well as classic Atari games. The price point isn’t set yet, but expect somewhere in the range of $250 – $300. The original plan was to go the crowdfunding route, which may still be the case. Thursday may mark the start of the campaign. The release window is set for spring 2018, and you can expect a more specific date come Thursday. We’ll keep you updated on Ataribox news, and we’ll keep our eyes open for any word on that Magnavox Odyssey console that I made up out of thin air. Share This With The World!
