Today is the birthday of MEGATech News’ own Michael Kwan. Michael, for your birthday I bring you Street Fighter II: the Definitive Soundtrack from Brave Wave. I mean, I bring you news of it, I don’t actually have any money.

The Verge has a nice feature up, which includes an interview with Brave Wave creative director Mohammed Taher. The biggest question lingering over the decision to do the soundtrack was what version of the soundtrack should be remastered? There’s the original soundtrack, and then there’s the Super Street Fighter II soundtrack, which featured new and updated tracks thanks to the more powerful CP System II arcade board.

Street Fighter II: The Definitive Soundtrack Will Feature Over 100 Songs

The team at Brave Wave came to the only logical conclusion: remaster them both. The album will feature over 100 tracks, encompassing both games. It was important to Brave Wave that they’re not just re-releasing the soundtracks, but updating them and giving them a more modern sound. Taher compares their mission to what Criterion does for movies, so that should give you an idea of how dedicated they are.

Street Fighter II: the Definitive Soundtrack is coming later this year, with other game soundtracks to follow.
