Wind Mobile

In Canada, you’ve got your three major nationwide carriers Bell, Telus and Rogers, along with their sub-brands like Virgin, Koodo and Fido. These are undeniably the biggest dogs in the yard, but then you’ve got a scrappy little fighter in the form of WIND Mobile. While its relatively short history has been mired with challenges, WIND Mobile continues to move along with a couple of new tidbits too.

First, WIND Mobile has now announced that its customers will be able to get full service to talk, text and data while traveling along the Canada Line of the Skytrain system in Vancouver. There’s nothing worse than going through the subway tunnel with no signal, missing out on that treasured commute time that you can waste away on Facebook and YouTube. Subscribers can expect to have service both on the trains themselves, as well as throughout the Canada Line stations and mezzanines. The full press release below has a little more information on that.

Second, MobileSyrup is reporting that WIND Mobile will offering a new plan structure starting this Thursday. The most expensive plan is now $10 cheaper at $50, giving you 10GB of full-speed data before being throttled down to 256kbps down and 128kbps up, as well as 1GB of data roaming in the US. Other plans get high-speed data limits of 5GB, 3GB or 2GB. This contrasts the old configuration of 5GB limits across all plans.

They’re also changing up the tab system so you can get your hands on a more expensive new phone, like the soon-to-be release Samsung Galaxy S6, regardless of the monthly plan that you choose. You can get a tab of up to $650, for example, by agreeing to pay it back in 24 monthly installments of $25. That nets you $50 in “free” money at the end of two years. The other options are a $450 tab and a $250 tab, paid back in $15 and $5 monthly installments, respectively. The BYOD credit system has been lowered to $150.
