On October 9th, in New York City, Google will officially unveil the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones. The event was mentioned by Bloomberg, though we already know plenty due to various “leaks” about the Pixel 3 XL.

Leaks.

Merriam-Webster defines a leak as a “crack or hole that usually by mistake admits or lets escape,” which is an appropriate definition for when tidbits of information on an unreleased device pop up on the Internet. It’s also a completely inappropriate definition for what happened with Google’s Pixel 3 XL, which had numerous units stolen and then offloaded through the Ukrainian black market (for $2,000 a pop, no less).

With so many units floating around in the wild, we know pretty much everything there is to know about the Pixel XL. We know about the notch, the USB-C earbuds that will come with the phone, and the pre-release camera software with features with added beauty effects and wide-angle “super selfies.” The video below is a 1080p unboxing of a phone that Google will officially reveal in October.

Of course there’s going to be an official reveal, though. While not always on this scale, stuff like this happens a lot and the companies involved can really do nothing but ignore it and go about their business like it didn’t happen at all. You can bet your life savings, though, that Google’s security is and has been working 24/7 to get to the bottom of the theft.

All that said, we haven’t heard much about the Pixel 3 specifically, but knowing what we do about its big brother, we can mentally snap together a pretty clear picture. We know it has a glass screen cover and will be notch-free, which I’m sure will please plenty of people. We’ll know more in about a month’s time.
