Sony Sells Sony Online Entertainment Dylan Duarte February 2, 2015 Sony has sold its Sony Online Entertainment brand, a brand under which they developed and published the likes of EverQuest, PlanetSide 2, and DC Universe Online, among others. It’s also the brand that was hacked back in 2011, resulting in 24.6 million customer accounts being compromised. It will now be owned by investment firm Columbus Nova and be known henceforth as Daybreak Game Company. Sony Online Entertainment, as the name suggests, specialized in online gaming, and fans of their games will be happy to know that Daybreak plans to continue support for SOE’s current slate of titles. They also plan to stick to SOE’s timeline for EverQuest Next and release it in the “near future,” though that’s all the detail we get on that front. Daybreak will be a multi-platform gaming company. I still remember seeing EverQuest ads in gaming magazines (remember magazines?) and thinking it looked like something special. Granted, I was a pre-teen at the time, so I thought everything looked like something special. I couldn’t have known just how big of a splash EverQuest would end up making in the realm of MMOs. via Tech Crunch Share This With The World!
