Just as we anticipated, Microsoft used its special event in Shanghai earlier today to reveal a brand new addition to the family. And by brand new, I mean mildly refreshed and updated. The new Surface Pro is being positioned as “the most versatile laptop” ever, because it’s so much more than just a tablet, right? Snap on that new keyboard, poke around with that new stylus, and spin around with the new dial and you’ve got a pretty handy mobile workstation with creativity baked right in. Something like that.

In addition to the main event in China, the new device is also being showcased on the Windows blog. And just as we had heard, this is not the Surface Pro 5, but rather just the newest version of the Surface Pro. This is similar to how Apple treats the Macbook.

Unsurprisingly, most of what you love about the old Surface Pro holds true with the new one too. You get a 12.3-inch PixelSense display and a 3:2 aspect ratio. They’ve revamped the hinge to offer a “Studio” mode that mimics the near flat experience of the Surface Studio desktop. Other highlights include 7th-gen Intel chips, quiet operation, 13.5 hour battery life, new Alcantara Type Cover keyboards ($129), and an upgraded Surface Pen ($99).

Microsoft is set to offer the new Surface Pro in six main configurations. The LTE-Advanced option will become available a little later this year.

  • 128GB SSD, Intel Core m3, 4GB of RAM, Intel HD Graphics 615 – $799.00
  • 128GB SSD, Intel Core i5, 4GB of RAM, Intel HD Graphics 620 – $999.00
  • 256GB SSD, Intel Core i5, 8GB of RAM, Intel HD Graphics 620 – $1,299.00
  • 256GB SSD, Intel Core i7, 8GB of RAM, Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 – $1,599.00
  • 512GB SSD, Intel Core i7, 16GB of RAM, Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 – $2,199.00
  • 1TB SSD, Intel Core i7, 16GB of RAM, Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 – $2,699.00

The education discount across the board is 10%, so the entry-level SKU would be $719.10 and the range-topping configuration would ring in at $2,429.10, for instance. Go ahead and place your preorder starting today via the Microsoft Store. Shipments to 26 countries around the world will start on June 15.
