Nintendo has never made watching videos much of a priority. The Nintendo Wii and Wii U couldn’t play DVDs, and now the Switch won’t be launching with streaming services like Netflix and Hulu. Worse yet, they’re only “being considered” for the future.

This wasn’t covered at the recent Nintendo Switch event, but instead came up in a question and answer section with gaming blog Kotaku. Among other topics covered were the death of the Miiverse social network (the Miis will survive!), how many user accounts a Switch can support (it’s eight), and whether or not the Switch will support Wii or Wii U controllers (it might).

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. Nintendo claims that the Switch is a “dedicated video game platform,” and as easily as that can be twisted into a lame excuse for not offering streaming options, dedicated gaming has always been Nintendo’s goal with their consoles. Plus, it’s not like anyone is lacking for streaming devices.
