Nintendo Squashes Android Console Rumors Michael Kwan June 2, 2015 News Well, that didn’t take very long. It was just yesterday that we reported the next-generation NX console from Nintendo might be powered by Android. It sounded like a bold move that would almost make sense, especially given the lackluster performance of the Wii U and Nintendo’s growing interest in developing Android games. For better or for worse, yesterday’s rumors of an Android console by Nintendo are all for naught. In speaking with the Wall Street Journal, an unnamed spokesperson from Nintendo stated that there is “no truth to the report saying that we are planning to adopt Android for NX.” So, that’s that, right? The exact wording of that official statement can be construed as being a little curious. Sure, the next-generation Nintendo NX console might not use Google’s operating system, but that doesn’t mean we might not be seeing some other Android console from Nintendo that technically isn’t NX. It might be the next iteration of the Nintendo 3DS rather than being the next iteration of the Wii U. Just throwing that out there. Will we learn more at E3 in Los Angeles in a couple weeks?
