Google Glass Will No Longer Be Available After Today Dylan Duarte January 19, 2015 Chances are that if you’re interested enough in Google Glass to buy a pair, you’ve done so already. Then again, maybe you’ve been batting the idea around in your head, hesitant to actually bite the bullet. Well that bullet needs to get bitten, because after today Google Glass will no longer be available for purchase. That doesn’t mean they’ll never be available again in some form. In fact, Google insists that they’re far from done with Glass and another iteration of the headset will be released at some point in the future, but the current Explorer model will be pulled from the metaphorical shelves after today. Google Glass never really took off with consumers, but Google may not have intended it to. Google made it clear from the beginning that the Explorer Edition of the headset was all about experimentation, seeing how people reacted to the technology and what they did with it. Now that they have that knowledge, they can put it to use on the next version of the device, which is being overseen by Tony Fadell, former Apple executive and founder of Nest. You can still grab Google Glass from the Play store until the end of the day, and of course the headset will continue to work even after it’s no longer on sale, but there won’t be anymore official updates. I believe that Google did intend for the Explorer Edition of the headset to be largely a learning experience, but I’m sure they wanted it to sell like hotcakes, too, which it just didn’t do. Even if they got the feedback that they wanted, pulling it for sale still feels like an admission of defeat. via Tech Crunch Share This With The World!
