MEGATech Showcase: Flash Drives Return Beth Snyder March 16, 2012 Features Here we are again, me with a bookmark folder full of flash drives, you with the time to take a look at them. None of these particularly grab my eye this time around, but there should be something for just about everyone in this batch. Plus a couple of hubs, because who doesn’t need a hub? Enjoy! First up is an 8GB flash drive that looks like a tiny little hard disk. It has a light so you know when it’s working, and is USB 2.0. You can pick one up for just $21.99 US. Source: Geek Alerts Spongebob! My niece’s kids love Spongebob. Me, I can take him or leave him, but I am amused that in order to access this keyring-mounted flash drive you have to pop his head off. I’m like that. This one is 16GB and will run you $33.99 US. Source: 7 Gadgets Lately there’s been a trend toward “empty” flash drives, and I kinda like it. This one isn’t so much an empty drive, though, as the bottle it sits inside is empty while the flash drive itself is mounted in the cork. It’s only available in 2GB, and will run you ¥3,465 (~$43.00 US), so probably you won’t want to get one. I know I wouldn’t pay that much. Source: Technabob I can’t decide if this one is amusing or disturbing. I suspect it could easily make an appearance in my nightmares, though. It’s called Gummibär, which apparently is a character from TV. Not sure where. But since it’s popular, you’re going to have to pay $24.99 US for 4GB of storage. Source: 7 Gadgets Mimobot strikes again! This time, they’ve made an Einstein flash drive. I think it would be better if it had actual hair, but you can’t have everything. He offers 2GB of storage and measures 2-1/2? x 1? x 1/2?. You can put Einstein in your pocket for $22.95 US. Source: Geek Alerts Angry Birds!! I know, I know…I feature them in almost every one of these posts. I can’t help it. Every time I think I’m getting over my obsession Rovio comes out with another variation on the game, and I am sucked back in again. This one is 8GB and costs $29.99 US. Source: 7 Gadgets I lied earlier. This, I definitely want. In fact, I’m ordering myself one as soon as I get finished with this post. Twelve USB ports, including a power adapter and two control switches? Sign me up! The switches control six ports at a time, so if you’re not using them all you can shut them down to save on phantom power. For just $28.00 US, there really isn’t much to lose. Source: Red Ferret It might not be a fun shape, and it’s certainly not cheap, but the Patriot Supersonic Magnum flash drive gives you 128GB of storage and is USB 3.0. It is enclosed in aluminum, to withstand shock up to 15Gs. Like I said, not cheap. It’s going to set you back over $200.00 US (on sale…regular price is $299.00 US). Source: 7 Gadgets Finally, we have a four-port hub. What’s neat about this is the banana shape (why it is pink rather than yellow is completely beyond me). If you’re one of those people like me who have umpteen goofy shaped flash drives, and you want to plug more than one of them in at once, standard hubs don’t so much work. The curve of the banana keeps your ports far enough apart that it will no longer be a problem. You can pick this one up for just $10.00 US. Source: Craziest Gadgets Share This With The World!
