Angry Birds Epic Turn-Based RPG Launches in Battle This Week Michael Kwan March 12, 2014 Rovio has very clearly decided that they’re going to milk this Angry Birds franchise for all that it’s worth. We started out with the regular game and a couple of expansion packs. We were introduced to interesting gravity effects in Angry Birds Space. Then, Rovio decided that the slingshot mechanic wasn’t enough anymore and they needed to expand. That’s how we got into kart-racing with Angry Birds Go, but Rovio is ready to expand even further with Angry Birds Epic. This time around, we’re being introduced to an adventure RPG that will feature turn-based combat and a “crafting” system. In a sense, it looks like Rovio is borrowing some inspiration from legendary franchises like Final Fantasy, as well as part of the “crafting” from a game like Dead Rising. They might also borrow some ideas from the recently released South Park: The Stick of Truth. However, as can be expected, Angry Birds Epic will be a “freemium” game where you’ll have the opportunity to make a number of in-app purchases for special armor, weapons and so forth. The official global launch on iOS, Android and Windows Phone 8 is slated for later this year, but if yo’re lucky enough to be living in Canada or Australia, you’ll find the super alpha, early build version hitting your iTunes Store later this week. If this goes well, should we expect Rovio to consider experimenting in other genres? Angry Birds Modern Warfowl, perhaps? League of Angry Birds? Angry Birds Street Flocker?
