Neil Young’s PonoPlayer Doubles Kickstarter Goal in 24 Hours Dylan Duarte March 12, 2014 Remember when I brought you word of Neil Young’s answer to what he believed was the low-quality sound of the iPod: the PonoPlayer? You should remember, because it was literally yesterday. And despite starting only a day ago, the Kickstarter for the PonoPlayer has destroyed its $800,000 goal by almost doubling it. At the time of this writing, Neil Young’s PonoPlayer has earned over $1.7 million in Kickstarter pledges. While it’s no doubt impressive, in all honestly, it’s not that surprising considering the name attached to it and the amount of coverage it’s been getting. Still, kudos to Young and the PonoMusic Team for utilizing the amazing power of crowdfunding. Now a successful Kickstarter doesn’t ensure much. There’s still plenty of time and room for the PonoPlayer to tank, but it’s coming out of the gate to a strong start. The first players are scheduled to ship in October of this year, so that’s when we should start getting glimpses of its actual success. A minimum pledge of $300 will score you a unit at launch in October. Pledge $400 to get a limited edition version featuring such artists as Tom Petty, Willie Nelson and Patti Smith. via The Verge Share This With The World!
