Are you the kind of person who likes to read harlequin novels while indulging in a bubble bath? Or maybe you like to bring some J.R.R. Tolkien or George R.R. Martin with you into the pool in your backyard. And you want more screen space to immerse yourself in these fictional worlds? It looks like the upcoming Kobo Aura One could be the e-reader for you, boasting a bigger display and waterproof protection.

When you look at the entire e-reader line from Amazon, from the entry-level Kindle all the way up to the high-end Kindle Oasis, you find that they all have 6-inch screens. The Kobo Aura One is different in that it features a 7.8-inch Carta E-ink display instead. This bigger screen means you can fit more words. Or bigger words. The biggest words, let me tell you, because there’s no problem there.

Despite stretching things over a larger, flush-mounted, front-lit touchscreen canvas, the Aura One maintains an overall pixel density of 300 ppi. That’s the same as what you’d find on the Kindle Paperwhite, Voyage and Oasis, except here you get a total resolution of 1872 x 1404 pixels. And like the Kobo Aura H2O that came before it, the Koboa Aura One is also waterproof.

The rest of the spec sheet largely holds up to par for the course. There’s built-in WiFi for you to download new content on the go, 8GB of internal storage to stash all that content, and 512MB of RAM to keep things moving along. The Aura One measures 195 x 138.5 x 6.9 mm and weighs 252 grams. This is all according to an accidental listing by a Dutch retailer who has since pulled the product page. Before they did, the Aura One was showing as 229 Euros.

Kobo had previously teased at a mid-August launch for a new e-reader. It looks like this new Aura One will be their next big thing. Do you want one?
