Are you excited about the prospect of getting snappy with Moto Mods? It looks like you’ll have to open up your wallet just a tad wider if you do. Motorola announced the Moto Z back in June at Lenovo Tech World and the totally modular Android smartphone will be heading our way next month. If you want an unlocked Moto Z straight from Lenovo, it’s going to set you back a cool $900.

That’s in Canada and only if you were to order the unlocked Moto Z directly from Motorola and Lenovo. Realistically, this is no more expensive than other flagship smartphones from the other major manufacturers. Want a new iPhone unlocked? How about a Galaxy Note7? Buying either of those off contract is going to set you back about $1,000.

Realistically, the only reason I find the pricing higher than I had expected is that Motorola has been going more affordable in recent years. The Moto E and Moto G lines have provided exceptional value and, up until now, the “flagship” Moto X line has been comparatively cheaper than the competition too. To be fair, the Moto X line has never pushed the spec sheet, but the Moto Z does with its 5.5-inch quad HD AMOLED display, Snapdragon 820, 4GB of RAM, 2,600mAh battery, and 5.2mm thick profile.

If you want to be among the first to get an unlocked Moto Z in Canada, then head over to the Motorola website to “register for updates.” That “register” button should turn into a “Buy now” button some time next month.
