Smoking-Mittens

Let me start by saying I’m not here to debate whether you should smoke or not. Far be it from me to judge if you do, since up until my recent bout of the flu I had been a smoker for years off and on (but mostly on) and it wouldn’t surprise me if I am again at some point. No, this post is not about making you feel bad about smoking if you do, or to pressure you into quitting, or anything else. Instead, this is about helping you smoke.

Yeah, you read that right. Helping you smoke. It’s winter in the northern half of the world, which means it’s often obnoxiously, even dangerously, cold outside. And with more and more places going smoke-free indoors, that leaves smokers quite literally out in the cold feeding their habit. If you’re a smoker, you know how much that sucks; your hands are freezing, your skin gets red and raw and cracks, and you periodically run a very real risk of frostbite. Sure, you can wear gloves, but that doesn’t always work.

Meet Smoking Mittens! This is a pair of mittens that will not only keep your hands warm, but allow you to smoke while you’re wearing them. One of the pair has a grommeted hole the perfect size for a cigarette so you can hold it without freezing your fingers off. They’re unisex, “one size fits all”, and reversible for left- or right-handed smokers. All of that tells me they’re a very loose fit, but it’s not like you’re going to be wearing them for long… only about 5 minutes at a time.

Smoking Mittens are not for everyone, of course. I see a couple of issues with them already, primarily not being able to flick your ashes. But when it’s well below zero outside, odds are good the wind is blowing hard enough the ashes will blow away before you can flick them anyway. And your hands will be warm! Each pair runs $26.00 US.
