Shipments of the new Samsung Gear VR started going out earlier today for our neighbors to the south, but Canadians can now start ordering the virtual reality headset starting today too. The Gear VR Consumer Edition improves on previous iterations in several ways, one of the most noteworthy being the reduction in price.

From a psychological perspective alone, the $99 MSRP for the United States market is much more attractive that the $139 MSRP being set for the Canadian market, even though that’s less than ten bucks off from the prevailing exchange rate. Compared to the Gear VR Innovator Edition, the Samsung Gear VR Consumer Edition is 30% lighter with improved ergonomics and no fan vent. You can even wear your glasses with it.

As can be expected, the VR headset is compatible with a range of Galaxy smartphones, including the Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+ and the Galaxy Note 5. Pre-orders can be taken now through The Source, Best Buy and Samsung Experience Stores with Canadian shipments of the Gear VR Consumer Edition to follow starting on December 11. It’s also on that day that it’ll be made available for purchase “at select national retailers and carriers.”
