Samsung Galaxy A8 Pops Up at Rogers and Fido Michael Kwan March 23, 2018 News Here we go again. If you’re prepared or willing to pony up the big bucks for the fancy new Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9 Plus, but you still want to get your hands on a fancy new Samsung smartphone, I guess you’re in luck? You can now choose to pony up a few fewer, smaller bucks for the Samsung Galaxy A8 through your choice of Rogers Wireless or its canine-themed subsidiary Fido in Canada. As can be fully expected, the Samsung Galaxy A8 borrows much of its DNA from last year’s Galaxy S8, except paring it down to a more affordable price point. For instance, you still get that snazzy Infinity Display, but the 5.6-inch screen only has a resolution of 1080 x 2220 pixels while retaining the extra tall 18.5:9 aspect ratio. You’ll also get an Exynos 7885 octa-core chip, 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. In a weird twist of fate, the main camera on the back is a single 16-megapixel shooter (f/1.7), but the selfie camera configuration is actually a dual camera setup with 16MP and 8MP cameras doing the job, both at an extra bright f/1.9. Selfies are important you know. Rounding things out, there’s Android N, expandable memory, and a 3,000mAh battery. Ever since Samsung introduced us to the first Galaxy Alpha way back in 2014, they’ve spawned a series of Alpha-esque phones under the Galaxy A family. The Galaxy A8 is simply a continuation of that trend and we’re probably going to see a Galaxy A9 around this time next year too. For now, the Galaxy A8+ is not coming to Canada, but that could change. The Samsung Galaxy A8 is listed at $699 Canadian outright and it comes in your choice of Orchid Grey or Black. Over at Rogers, you can lock yourself down to a two-year Premium Tab and pick up the phone for $149. With Fido, the same $149 up-front cost applies when you hook up on a two-year Large plan.
