Roam Mobility Extending Coverage to Mexico

Hola, my Canadian amigos! I bring even more great news for Roam Mobility customers. Just a few weeks ago I wrote about Roam Mobility’s new Snowbird talk and text plan, which gives users traveling from Canada to the US unlimited minutes and text messages for only $19.95 a month. Roaming charges can get pretty nasty, so that’s a killer deal. Now Roam is sweetening the pot by not only adding additional US coverage but they’re expanding their network all the way down to Mexico!

First off, Roam is expanding their US coverage to include Alaska, Maine, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Wyoming, Kansas, West Virginia, and more. However, this new coverage is part of the Enhanced Coverage plan, which costs an extra $30 a month (on top of normal Snowbird charges) and will give you unlimited SMS but just 20 minutes of talk time and 10MB of data per day when in an enhanced coverage area. This deal may not sound that exciting, but considering that Roam usually doesn’t cover those areas at all, it’s nice to know that you have the option if you really need it. This plan will be available starting December 17.

The exciting news is the Mexico coverage! There are three weekly pass options, all easy to remember. $25 will get you 50 minutes, 50 messages, and 50MB of data. $50 will get you 125 minutes, 125 message, and 125MB. Finally, $125 will get you 200 minutes, 200 messages, and 200MB. These are all outgoing messages, by the way; each plan gets unlimited incoming SMS, as well as MMS, caller ID, and voicemail. The minutes include calls to Mexico, US and Canada and don’t cost anything on top of what you’re already paying. The best part is you don’t need a new SIM card for this, as it uses the same one being sold today. These plans will become available on December 10.

So by all means, take a little siesta across the border! The only Spanish I know comes from the bumblebee guy on The Simpsons, so I don’t think I’m quite ready yet. Be sure to check out the full press release below.

Roam Mobility announces lowest price wireless service for Canadians travelling to Mexico

Roam Mobility has expanded its wireless network to enable Canadian travellers to enjoy affordable talk, text, and data in Mexico and even more areas of the U.S.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, December 2, 2014 – Roam Mobility, the leading independent provider of roaming services for Canadians, announced today that they are expanding their existing coverage area—which spans the U.S. – to include Mexico.

Starting December 10, 2014, Canadians can stay connected in Mexico with talk, text, and data at rates up to 95% below those charged by major wireless carriers. Coverage is nationwide and includes popular vacation spots such as Cancu?n, Playa del Carmen, Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico City, and Tijuana.

“Mexico is a very popular travel destination among Canadian travellers, second only to the US, so making affordable talk, text, and data available in this region was a priority for us,” says Emir Aboulhosn, CEO of Roam Mobility. “We’re excited to offer coverage in time for the Christmas holidays and spring break—two of the busiest times of the year for travel to Mexico.”

Roam customers can choose from three 7-day plans:

50 talk minutes, 50 sent texts, and 50MB of data for $25

125 talk minutes, 125 sent texts, and 125MB of data for $50

200 talk minutes, 200 sent texts, and 200MB of data for $125

All plans offer data speeds up to 4G, unlimited incoming texts, calls to Mexico, the U.S., and Canada, and extra features such as caller ID, call waiting, MMS, and voicemail.

Roaming plans for Mexico can be accessed with the same rechargeable Roam Mobility SIM card used for access to Roam’s U.S. roaming network. For a limited time, Roam SIM cards are on sale for $9.95, or $14.95 for two.

New Enhanced Coverage

In addition to launching a Mexico-wide network, Roam Mobility is also introducing Enhanced Coverage for its U.S. roaming network.

Starting December 17, 2014, Roam customers can purchase an Enhanced Coverage add-on to supplement their regular plan and ensure coverage in areas the network does not currently cover so they can always stay connected.

The Enhanced Coverage add-on enables travellers passing through Alaska, Michigan, Maine, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Wyoming, Kansas, West Virginia, and Eastern Washington State to stay reliably connected to Roam’s network.

When scheduling a Talk+Text or Talk+Text+Data plan, Roam customers will have the option of adding the Enhanced Coverage add-on for just $1 per day for 20 minutes of talk, unlimited text, and 10MB of data per day to use in any of the Enhanced Coverage areas.
