Samsung Working on Metal Galaxy S6 Edge Too Michael Kwan December 2, 2014 It shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise that the flagship smartphone set to follow the Galaxy S5 is going to be called the Samsung Galaxy S6. And while the rest of the leaked specs are in line with what we would expect, it’s a little more surprising to hear that there will be a Galaxy S6 Edge with a curved, wraparound display too. That’s the latest rumor making its way around the Internet. We have already heard about Samsung’s Project Zero and how the next generation of flagships will be reportedly completely redesigned from the current crop. Even so, Samsung has always had the habit of drawing inspiration from its existing lineup. For the Galaxy S6, word on the web is that it’ll move more toward the metal construction of the Galaxy Alpha, though it may still be restricted to the frame and not to the entire outer casing. The specs under the hood are largely expected to be a natural evolution of what we’re already seeing in devices like the Galaxy Note 4, but in a smaller form factor in line with the Galaxy S series. The display size hasn’t yet been determined, but it should be quad HD (2560×1440) like the Note 4. The Galaxy S6 may also be the among the first devices to rock the newest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, though getting a 64-bit Exynos 7420 in some markets. The rear camera should be either 16MP or 20MP, while the front camera is expected to be 5MP. Expect 32GB, 64GB and 128GB storage capacities. As mentioned, the bigger news is that in addition to the regular Galaxy S6, a so-called Galaxy S6 Edge is also in the works. This will likely follow the same kind of idea that we’ve seen in the Galaxy Note Edge where the display curves around the right edge of the phone to provide an extra “strip” of screen that is visible from the side. As with the Note Edge, the Galaxy S6 Edge could see a relatively limited release. Maybe CES in January will set the stage? Or Samsung will host its own special event shortly thereafter? Stay tuned!
