Accessory wizards Razer have launched the Raiju – a new PlayStation 4 controller designed specifically for competitive gamers, and it honestly looks like an amalgamation of Microsoft’s and Sony’s recent controllers. I couldn’t approve more, and apparently neither can esports athletes.

The Razer Raiju features multiple customizable buttons, a hair-trigger mode, the ability to mute the mic and adjust the game volume, and a design that has been put through the paces by multiple esports superstars. It has optional analog stick rubber grip caps and a carrying case so you don’t damage the controller as you travel from one tournament to another, amassing a fortune while playing video games you lucky little – oops, got off track there.

If you’re going to make an effective esports controller, the two most important things would be the ability to customize and the approval of actual esports athletes, and Razer checked both of those boxes. The Raiju is available now in select countries, but it hasn’t quite made its way to North America. You can sign up on their website to be notified when it comes to your area. RAZER LAUNCHES TOURNAMENT-GRADE
CONTROLLER FOR PLAYSTATION®4 DESIGNED FOR ESPORTS

The officially licensed Razer Raiju controller features additional programmable buttons, optimised esports ergonomics, and a Quick Control Panel to give you a competitive edge in every tournament.

For Release on Dec. 9, 2016

BERLIN – Razer™, a leading global lifestyle brand for gamers, today announced the release of the Razer Raiju controller for PlayStation®4 designed for esports.

Designed for esports professionals to participate in tournament level gameplay on PS4™, the Razer Raiju is equipped with advanced controller customisation and ergonomics proven to give esports athletes an edge.

The Razer Raiju is the result of a partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe (SIEE), and further benefited from close collaboration with esports athletes who put prototypes through their paces. As a result the officially licensed controller works seamlessly with all PS4™ systems and delivers tournament-grade performance.

The Razer Raiju features two unique fully-programmable multi-function bumpers and triggers. These triggers, bumpers and action buttons all utilise Razer’s proprietary Hyperesponse™ mechanical switch technology, delivering precise actuation and tactile response.

Positioned to best allow fingertip access, each bumper at the shoulders and removable triggers on the underside can be individually set using the button remapping function. Offering the ability to freestyle configurations, players get to decide exactly how to use their gaming weapon and dominate opponents.

The controller is also armed with mechanical trigger stop switches and a hair trigger mode, making it possible to switch between or combine modes to unleash ultra-fast activations.

The Razer Raiju’s esports optimised yet familiar form factor, balanced weight and in-mold grips provide a comfortable fit, allowing hours of uninterrupted play. These features are a direct result of the feedback from top PS4 esports athletes including Tyler “FeLonY” Johnson and Brice “Faccento” Faccento , former Team eLevate (Call of Duty) members.

The four-button Quick Control Panel of the Razer Raiju provides easy access to a variety of functions. From toggling between two customisable profiles to muting the mic and adjusting game volume, users need not take their hands off the controller. At the base of the panel is the universal 3.5 mm audio port for stereo audio output and microphone input.

For low-latency gameplay, critical for winning tournaments, the Razer Raiju features a lightweight braided cable with a detachable Micro-USB connector. For easy storage and transportation, the controller comes bundled with a premium carrying case to keep it protected during travel.

“The Razer Raiju is a great controller,” says FeLonY. “Its shape fits perfectly in my hands and the stick and grip customisation allows me to tweak the feel until I’m happy. The controller is very responsive and the trigger layout is smart.”

Razer Co-Founder and CEO Min-Liang Tan says: “We are committed to providing PS4™ esports athletes the tools they need to finish at the top of the podiums.”
