Nissan Enters the Smartwatch Race with Nismo Dylan Duarte September 9, 2013 There’s a new contender in the smartwatch game and it isn’t who you’d expect. Nissan is working on the Nissan Nismo Watch, which they claim is the first smartwatch to connect car and driver. They’ll be showing off the tech at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. Currently, the watch is targeted at a very specific audience: drivers of Nissan Nismo cars, which is Nissan’s motorsport and performance division. The watch connects to the car via a smartphone app and Bluetooth. It can access vehicle telematics and performance data; monitor your heart rate, speed and fuel-consumption; and receive messages from Nissan. And yes, there will be social media integration. The watch is part of Nissan’s Nismo lab, a mobile laboratory that monitors Nismo athletes as they race. The Nismo Watch is an attempt to put this power in the hands of the drivers. Obviously, this watch doesn’t have a very wide appeal, but there’s also nothing like it, so Nissan may be scratching a very specific itch for performance drivers. via Mashable Share This With The World!
