With the increasingly advanced smartphone technology slowly eating away at the digital camera market, camera producers need to start pulling out all the stops to stay relevant. Nikon’s solution is to make their cameras waterproof, shockproof, and freezeproof, giving them an edge over their generally fragile smartphone competition. Nikon Canada sent out a press release detailing both the COOLPIX AW130 and the COOLPIX S33.

The COOLPIX AW130 is all about the features. A 16-megapixel CMOS sensor with full HD 1080p ensures breathtaking pictures and built-in WiFi and NFC capabilities makes it easy to share your pictures online. Location-based technology such as GPS, Maps, and Points of Interest allow you to record the coordinates of where you take your pictures. The COOLPIX AW130 is waterproof up to 100ft, shockproof up to 7ft, and freezproof to 14F.

The COOLPIX S33 is like a lighter version of the AW130, but for less than half the price. It offers a 13.2-megapixel CMOS sensor with full HD 1080p, 16 different style and effects options, and is waterproof up to 33ft, shockproof up to 5ft, and freezeproof to 14F.

Both cameras will be available in March. The COOLPIX AW130 will cost $379.95 and the COOLPIX S33 will run you $149.95. Check out the full press release below and pictures in the gallery.
