New Nintendo 3DS XL Super NES Edition Is Really Super Michael Kwan October 23, 2017 News Nintendo has developed this uncanny ability to tug at our nostalgic heartstrings. Offer us even the slightest glimpse into the gaming glory days of the 80s and 90s and we all turn into Futurama’s fry, begging for Nintendo to shut up and take our money. And now they’ve done it again with the New Nintendo 3DS XL Super NES Edition. It’s exactly what you think it is. The product name is a mouthful and the whole “new” naming scheme for the 3DS causes all sorts of marketing confusion (it’s like the Wii U all over again). All that said, if you’re not terribly interested in the Nintendo Switch (or forking out the corresponding amount of money for the system, extra Joy-cons, and $60+ games), the 3DS platform is still seriously solid for gaming on the go. In the case (no pun intended) of the New Nintendo 3DS XL Super NES Edition, or NN3DSXLSNESE for short, you get the same functionality as the regular New Nintendo 3DS XL, but stylized after the awesomely-amazing Super Nintendo Entertainment System from the 90s. It comes complete with that slightly off shade of grey with plenty of purple highlights, including the two-toned purple buttons. You also get totally non-functional power and reset sliders and a non-functional eject switch. And just like the regular version of the portable console, this one also doesn’t come with an AC adapter. That’s sold separately, but it does use the same adapter as the DSi, 3DS and 2DS if you’ve got a spare kicking around. You could always go with some third-party retro consoles if you’d like, but getting it straight from the source is so much more satisfying. This isn’t quite the same as picking up an NES Classic and SNES Classic, but it does come with a free download code for Super Mario Kart from the SNES. The New 3DS XL Super NES Edition is up for pre-order on Amazon.com for $199.99 US and on Amazon.ca for $239.99 Canadian. Expect it to ship on November 27. Share This With The World!13 13Shares
