When the Dell Streak was first released back in 2010, everyone thought it’s 5.0-inch screen was ridiculously massive. When the original Samsung Galaxy Note came out the following year with its 5.3-inch screen, everyone thought it was laughably large. These days, a 5-inch display is practically the minimum size for a modern day smartphone, with most falling into the 5.5 to 6.3-inch kind of range. And then along comes the Huawei Honor Note 10 with its 7-inch screen. This was inevitable.

After so many teasers and so much hearsay, the Huawei Honor Note 10 has officially been announced and it’s one massive monster of a smartphone. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a 7-inch smartphone, but it does reaffirm that this is an emerging trend.

We like big screens and we cannot lie.

Now technically speaking, the Huawei Honor Note 10 doesn’t really have a 7-inch screen. It’s full HD+ (1080 x 2200 pixels; 18.5:9 aspect ratio) AMOLED display only measures 6.95 inches across the diagonal. While the side bezels are thin, the upper and lower bezels haven’t completely disappeared. That means no notch, so that’s something, and the AMOLED screen supports the HDR10 standard with 115% NTSC color gamut coverage.

Obviously, the generously-proportioned display and the understandably larger dimensions of the phone itself are what will get the most attention. Looking inside, you get a Huawei Kirin 970 chipset, plus a hybrid slot for either dual SIM cards or a microSD card. The variant with 6 GB of RAM gives you the option of 64 or 128 GB of storage, while the model with 8 GB of RAM gets 128 GB of internal storage. There’s also GPU Turbo and CPU Turbo tech, which combine for “Double Turbo” mode.

You won’t get the triple camera configuration of the Huawei P20 Pro here. Instead, it’s a dual camera setup with a 24MP main camera and a 16MP secondary camera, both f/1.8. On the front is a 13MP f/2.0 selfie camera. Rounding out the specs are Android 8.1 Oreo with EMUI 8.2, a 5,000 mAh battery with Super Charge, and your choice of Midnight Black or Phantom Blue.

Pricing ranges from about $409 to $527 and it’ll start shipping in China tomorrow. No word on the possibility of an international release.
