Heroes of Newerth is Latest to Suffer Security Breach Dylan Duarte December 17, 2012 It’s that time again! No, I’m not talking about the holidays, but the newfound online tradition that occurs every few months where a popular website or service suffers a security breach. This year we’ve seen Yahoo, Twitter, LinkedIn, Formspring, and many more online entities get hacked, whereupon user data becomes available to the hacker. The next target? Online multiplayer game Heroes of Newerth. The game’s developers, S2 Games, announced the breach early this morning via the game’s official forums. They haven’t offered much in the way of details, probably because they don’t have them yet themselves. In many of these instances, it takes a while for the victims to assess the full extent of the damage. Players are being asked to change their passwords associated with their HoN account, but the not actual password that logs them into the game. Players of the game will understand the distinction. Heroes of Newerth has been offering updates via Twitter and concerned players are encouraged to follow them to stay in the loop. The updates are few and far between, but I can only assume that the investigation into the leak is slow going as well. via Slash Gear Share This With The World!
