Tick tock. Tick tock. Just as Apple has typically oscillated between new designs and “S” spec bumps between iPhone generations, Samsung has generally followed the same kind of schedule. The Galaxy S6 was a radical departure from the S5, but the Galaxy S7 wasn’t that different from the S6. Given this, we’re expecting the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ to largely follow in the footsteps of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ from last year. And these images essentially confirm this.

The leaked renders of the upcoming Samsung flagship smartphones come by way of Venturebeat’s Evan Blass. As expected, the upcoming Galaxy S9 and S9+ will likely carry over the same kind of Infinity Display as the one that debuted in last year’s Galaxy S8 and S8+, complete with the rounded corners.

As far as specs go, here’s what Blass has to tell us:

  • Display: 5.8-inch for S9, 6.2-inch for S9+
  • Processor: Snapdragon 845 in US/Canada/China, Exynos 9810 elsewhere
  • RAM: 4GB for S9, 6GB for S9+
  • Storage: 64GB for S9, 128GB for S9+
  • Variable aperture lens (f/2.4 to f/1.5) with 12MP cameras
  • Capable of recording super slow-mo video 720p at 480fps
  • S9+ gets dual 12MP rear cameras, S9 only has one
  • 8MP selfie camera for both models
  • Fingerprint scanner moved below camera module
  • Stereo speakers

Below is the official invitation to the Samsung Unpacked event on February 25. Very clearly, it’s promoting the Samsung Galaxy S9 with a specific emphasis on how they’ve “reimagined” the camera. That’s probably referencing the variable aperture.

Over on Twitter, Evan Blass went on to mention that the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will likely get an animoji-like feature in selfie mode too. Both phones are expected to start shipping and selling through the usual retail channels on March 16. Start saving up those doubloons!
