Best Buy Closing 50 Stores Dylan Duarte April 16, 2012 It’s buh-bye for Best Buy as a $1.7 billion loss is forcing the retailer to close 50 stores in 22 different states, most of which will be shut down by May 12th, which is less than a month away. Eight of the stores have already closed – five in Minnesota, two in Missouri and Arizona, and one in Texas. The remaining 42 were notified Saturday morning of their stores’ impending doom. Only three of those stores will remain open past May 12th, but they will be closed down by the end of summer. Best Buy is willing to help employees find employment elsewhere, but employees can also choose to accept a severance package. It’s never easy when a big closure like this puts so many out of work, especially in an economy where jobs are already scarce.
