Asus PadFone X Comes to US, Available for AT&T Preorder on June 6th Dylan Duarte May 28, 2014 True to their word, AT&T and Asus are finally bringing the PadFone X stateside. The device, which is the latest in Asus’ line of convertible smartphone/tablet hybrids, will be available for pre-order through AT&T starting June 6th. The PadFone X will run you $199.99 with a new contract and will come with the dock that converts it into a 9-inch tablet. It will also be one of the first phones to support VoLTE, which just launched on AT&T’s network last week, albeit in limited markets. This is the first PadFone model to come to the US, though Asus (check out Asus at CES 2014) has released several models in the Asian market. In the US, Asus is a well-known name in electronics, but not in the area of mobile phones. It’ll be interesting to see if they can establish a foothold. They certainly seem to have a unique enough product. With the Surface Pro 3 launching and now the PadFone X, companies seem to be pushing convertible products harder than ever. It’s certainly an economical idea, but I think we’re still a ways off from seeing a convertible product that can do as good of a job as a dedicated product of the same type. Still, if you’re hurting for cash, products like the Asus PadFone X can offer a cheap way to experience the not-quite-best of both worlds. via The Verge Share This With The World!
