Have ever looked down at your Apple Watch or Samsung Gear smartwatch and wished to yourself that you could have a much bigger display fit on your wrist? Yes? No? What if it involved laser beams, even if they weren’t mounted to the foreheads of sharks? That dream has now become a reality, because the Asu Cast 1 smartwatch is now available for purchase and it does indeed boast an integrated laser projector.

Before we go any further, it’s important to point out that the company behind this latest innovation is Asu and not Asus. I know I misread it the first time. This unknown (at least to me) Chinese company first announced the Asu Cast 1 back at CES in January and now they’ve moved into full production and are ready to accept your American dollars.

The Asu Cast 1 may look like an ordinary smartwatch with its smallish sapphire touchscreen, WiFi and Bluetooth. Other highlights include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip, 768MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, 740mAh battery and Android 5.1. Where this watch separates itself from the crowd is the 1024 x 600 laser projector. It’s only got 15 lumens and can project that image onto the back of your hand or onto a neighboring wall. It looks like it could make a good wall clock.

The retail price for the Asu Cast 1 smartwatch has been set at 2,980 Yuan, which works out to about US $450. You can check the product page for further details, so long as you have Google Translate handy.
