So, in addition to the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xr announced at yesterday’s Apple Event, we were also treated to Apple Watch Series 4. We get a bunch of new features like a larger edge-to-edge display, better reception, and haptic feedback for the dial. But what if you don’t have $400 or more to spend? Well, you can get a cheaper one instead.

I should preface this by saying that the standard model of the Apple Watch Series 4 starts at $399 and the one with more connectivity starts at $499. That’s in US dollars. If you hop on over to the refurb section on the online Apple Store, you’ll find that you can get one of these smartwatches for as little as $219 Canadian.

Needless to say, some sacrifices will have to be made to achieve that price point. For starters, this is a certified refurbished Apple Watch that you’re getting and not a brand spanking new one. And also, this ain’t Series 4. It’s just Series 1. But hey, it’s less than half the price and most random passers-by won’t even notice the difference.

The good news is that the discounts extend beyond this basic entry-level unit. The bad news is that, as far as I can tell, the refurb store currently only has stock of Series 1. The Series 2 is listed for $529 with a 42mm stainless steel case, but it appears to be out of stock. For the Series 1 Apple Watch, you can choose from:

  • 38mm Rose Gold with Pink Sand Sport Band: $219
  • 42mm Rose Gold with Midnight Blue Sport Band: $249
  • 42mm Space Grey with Black Sport Band: $249
  • 42mm Gold with Cocoa Sport Band: $249
  • 42mm Silver with White Sport Band: $249

No, it’s not the new Series 4, but it’s definitely a heck of a lot cheaper. And despite it sounding like these are three generations behind, you have to remember that Series 1 was originally released in September 2016. That’s only two years. Not bad for saving about $300 on an Apple Watch.
