Do We Really Need 10GB of RAM in a Smartphone? Michael Kwan September 27, 2018 News Call me an ancient dinosaur if you must, but I still remember when having one full gig of RAM on your computer was a big deal. Now, at least on paper, there are smartphones that are even more powerful than the desktop computer on which I’m typing up this blog post. Like, it looks like we are on the cusp of the world’s first smartphone with 10GB of RAM. Ten. Gigabytes. Of. RAM. OPPO Find X adds a 10GB RAM version, which will be the world's first 10GB RAM Smartphone. pic.twitter.com/ULdntw6X95 — Ice universe (@UniverseIce) September 27, 2018 This “confirmation” comes by way of a mention in a TENAA listing. Apparently, there’s a variation of the Oppo Find X coming down the pipeline that will increase the RAM figure to 10GB. As you might recall, the Oppo Find X is that curiosity of a smartphone that overcame the “notch” problem in one of the wildest ways: with a motorized pop-up camera. I’m not sure how well those moving parts will hold up over time, but you’ve got to hand it to Oppo for taking a creative approach to a common complaint. For now, the standard issue Oppo Find X comes equipped with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of storage. The leaked TENAA listing shows a variant that comes with 10GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. If true and if they’re able to bring this to market soon, it’ll be the first smartphone to achieve that ten gig market, beating out the yet-to-be-released Vivo Xplay7 and a rumored variant of the Asus ROG Phone. The initial leak of the TENAA information comes by way of Ice Universe on Twitter. He’s the same leaker who correctly revealed the Bluetooth-enhanced S Pen for the Galaxy Note 9 ahead of its official announcement, among other information. I know it’s an Apples to oranges thing, but the brand new iPhone XS only has 4GB of RAM. Remember when we thought having four gigs in a smartphone was outrageous? Share This With The World!5 5Shares
