What You MegaTech Missed: Epic Coffee Face Michael Kwan April 10, 2011 For better or for worse, this week’s roundup has nothing to do with Epic Meal Time, but that doesn’t mean that it hasn’t been an epic week worth checking out. Before we get started, though, I just want to put out one last heads-up to enter our Techie Twitter Tuesday Giveaway. Zalman USA has been so kind as to provide us with three awesome prizes, so make sure you enter before midnight Tuesday if you want to be eligible. Check the contest post for details about how to enter. Yes, it has to do with Twitter. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 have been out for a while, so they’re probably due for an update. Both Microsoft and Sony say that they’re not going to release an Xbox 720 or PS4 for at least a few years, but Epic Games feels the time is now. Check out the Unreal Video embedded above. These are the kinds of graphics we can have right now built on the Unreal Engine. Those textures and reflection effects are pretty epic indeed. Magic beans? Yes, please! The Joulies coffee beans really are something special. They’re wrapped in food grade stainless steel, but there’s a special goop on the inside which is solid at room temperature. Dunk them into your coffee, though, and that goop will melt (inside the stainless steel; don’t worry, your coffee won’t get contaminated). The melted goop is cooler, so it brings that piping hot cup down to a more palatable temperature. Before you say that it’ll make your coffee too cold, get this: As the java cools down, the Joulies change material on the inside starts to solidify again, warming your cup of coffee. What does this mean? Your cup will stay at just the right temperature for a very long time. How’s that for cool (and hot) tech? Completing the Epic Coffee Face moniker for this roundup post is an amazing story of a gamer. Nicknamed Broly Legs, Mike Begum plays Street Fighter with his face. That’s crazy. He has a condition which prevents him from playing with his hands, so he’s figured out a way to play with his cheek and his tongue on an Xbox 360 gamepad. The best part is that he does very well in tournaments and plays competitively on a regular basis. Check out the original blog post for a video with Broly Legs, including an interview and gameplay footage. I know. Spring cleaning isn’t exactly your idea of fun, but Dylan Duarte at least helps you do it well with his roundup for smartphone cleaning apps. Stay organized, keep up your cleaning schedule, and this annual ritual might not be so painful each year. And there you have another week in tech and geekery.
