What You MegaTech Missed: Blasting and Hacking Phones

Following up on the new tradition we started last Sunday, it’s time once again to take a quick glimpse into some of the great content on MegaTechNews that you may have missed this past week.

We start out with a quick look at the CellBlaster UV Cellphone Sanitizer. You might be amazed by how contaminated your phone is with bacteria, germs, and all sorts of other microscopic creepy-crawlies. This little investment could save you a whole world of hurt (and a trip to the hospital).

Next, there’s a concept product floating around called the Rolltop 2.0 and it’s supposed to show us what notebooks will look like in the future. Rather than opening up a lid like how you’d expect to do on a laptop, this product rolls up on a central spindle. It’s supposed to be easier to carry around.

The kicker is that the entire inside portion is one massive touchscreen display, effectively giving you an external monitor, a big tablet device, and a touch-sensitive notebook PC all in one. The central spindle also doubles as a power supply unit and possibly as the speaker set too. It’s all pretty crazy, but if this is what the iPad 7 is going to look like… that’s a pretty big leap from the iPad 2.

Either way, it’s just a concept for now with no working prototype to speak of. Shame.

With the recent earthquake and tsunamis in Japan, we take a look at the power of Twitter. This is not only when reporting on international events like the Sendai tragedy and the ongoing struggles in Libya, but also when it comes to resurrecting celebrity careers. Let’s not forget that Conan O’Brien probably would be where he is now if it were not for Twitter.

And Charlie Sheen? Yeah, it’s safe to say he’s “winning” now.

Hackers of the world unite! Our very own James White lets us know what is happening at the Pwn2Own hacking marathon, both on day one and on day two. Needless to say, these professional hackers didn’t have too much trouble pushing some malicious code over both desktop browsers and mobile browsers. Feel safe? You shouldn’t.
