Walk Your Way to Power with AMPY Beth Snyder October 28, 2014 If you have gadgets, particularly a smartphone, you are intimately familiar with the frustration that is battery life. The technology that packs our devices with more and more functions is light years ahead of the technology that allows us to power them for more than a few hours, and so we become almost zombie-like in our quest for an outlet. There are, of course, multiple types of portable chargers, but all of them have one thing in common: you have to plug them in to charge them before you can take them on the road for use in charging other devices. AMPY is different. What powers AMPY is not being plugged into your computer or a wall outlet, but rather the motions you make while you’re carrying it. We typically walk about 10,000 steps per day even if we don’t make an effort to actually exercise, and that kinetic energy is usually wasted. AMPY has figured out a way to harness it, store it, and use it to power our gadgets. It’s brilliant! Of course, if you’re in a hurry you can also plug AMPY into the wall to charge it, but that pretty much negates the point of creating and using clean, renewable, free power. Using AMPY is simple. Just slip it into your pocket (or use something from its accessory pack), and go on about your daily life. AMPY will convert the kinetic energy from your movements and store it in its internal lithium ion battery. When your device is getting low, just plug it in and charge. But AMPY isn’t just planning to harvest energy, they’re also planning to encourage you to get out and do more, which will lead to not only your gadgets being powered but to you being healthier. In fact, as part of their Kickstarter campaign, the creators of AMPY have vowed to collectively burn 100 calories and generate clean energy using AMPY for each backer. They’ve currently got over 1,600 backers, and have received more than double their funding goal with about two weeks left to go. If you would like to get your own AMPY unit, you’ll have to pledge at least $85.00 US (which is $10.00 less than their projected price). If you’d like to add an accessory pack to that, your pledge will need to go to at least $105.00 US ($20.00 off its projected retail price). Source: Coolest Gadgets Share This With The World!
