Valve: No Steam Box Any Time Soon Dylan Duarte March 9, 2012 Sometime last week, rumor got around that Half-Life developer Valve was entering the console race when photos of a supposed ‘Steam Box’ console hit the internet. That rumor has been more or less shot down by Doug Lombardi, marketing director at Valve. Lombardi told Kotaku that the developer regularly builds special boxes for various testing purposes when creating games. Apparently, it was a photo of one of said boxes that kicked off the rumors. Lombardi didn’t flat out deny that they’re working on a console, but he did say that Valve has no plans to ship any hardware anytime soon. I love Valve–they’re probably my favorite developer–but the console market doesn’t need any more contenders. Gamers already spend enough money as it is trying to keep up. Besides, Valve belongs on the PC, where they’ve already revolutionized gaming with their Steam platform. Share This With The World!
