These unusual but comfy toe shoes may be the next best thing since sliced bread, especially if you hear the semi-barefoot running crowd tell it. However, despite any real or imagined benefits, Vibram’s FiveFingers running shoes are officially considered in bad taste according to the US Military which recently let fall the banhammer.

Straight from the Army’s press release, There are a variety of minimalist running shoes available for purchase and wear. Effective immediately, only those shoes that accommodate all five toes in one compartment are authorized for wear. Those shoes that feature five separate, individual compartments for the toes detract from a professional military image and are prohibited for wear with the IPFU or when conducting physical training in military formation.

So there you have it, no goofy minimalist footwear and no clowning around during PT’s – or else.
