Today is Black Friday, when one can typically find some of the best deals of the year. It is a day both dreaded by some and eagerly awaited by others, perhaps in equal measure. The day after Thanksgiving has become synonymous with chaotic consumerism.

Except for this year.

This year, the day after Thanksgiving is and will forever be known for the debut of the first teaser trailer for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. And what a debut it is! If you haven’t seen it yet, I suggest you scroll down and watch it before reading any further. I know I may be pushing the limits of the eye-roll by warning about spoilers for a teaser trailer, but this is Star Wars after all. It should be fresh and new and exciting!

J.J. Abrams and crew have kept an incredibly tight lid on the plot. What little we know has come from casting announcements and now this teaser, which shows a sith lord with a new lightsaber design, Oscar Isaac as an X-Wing pilot, the return of the Millenium Falcon, and a few other things worth noting. One interesting bit is John Boyega in a Stormtrooper outfit. Boyega, who’s had roles in Attack the Block, 24, and a few other things, is most definitely not a clone of Jango Fett, which brings up the question of why he’s wearing the iconic white armor. Also, that little soccer ball droid is so Star Wars that it hurts. I’ve proudly grown out of my prequel-bashing phase, but I can’t deny that this teaser manages to nail the series’ unique feel much better than Episodes 1 – 3 ever did.

The teaser is below. I plan to watch it over and over again until someone yells at me to get back to work.
