SITU Smart Scale Makes Nutrition Tracking Easy Beth Snyder April 15, 2014 Extras One of the things I do is cook, and primarily I cook for my pre-diabetic mother. Which means it’s become almost second nature for me to know what ingredients I can use in what quantities to keep meals within her dietary restrictions. But it wasn’t always that way, and when I first started out I needed an awful lot of help. Back then, getting help meant going to the USDA website to figure out the nutrition information for so many foods it made my head spin. Had something like SITU been around then, I would have been so happy! SITU is a food scale with an accompanying app which can tell you the nutrition information of your food. All you have to do it put your plate (or the food itself, but that can get a little messy) on the scale, search for whatever it is you’re eating in the app, and it will analyze calories and basic nutrition information based on the weight of the food. You can even add your favourite foods so you don’t have to search every time you eat them. At first there’s going to be a pretty big learning curve, but I look at it about the same way as installing a new software firewall: it needs to be trained (and so do you), but once you’re both on the same page it’s pretty much smooth sailing. It works with iOS or Android tablets (it specifies tablets, although I honestly can’t see why it wouldn’t also work with phones), and the scale pairs with the app via Bluetooth. When not connected to a tablet it becomes just a regular kitchen scale, which is something that comes in very handy in and of itself. SITU is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, with a cutoff of May 2nd. As with most Kickstarter projects you can pledge as little as $1 to back it, but if you’d like to actually receive a unit you’ll have to pledge at least 50 (about $84 US), with free shipping in the UK (12/$20 US for shipping outside the UK). Estimated delivery is November 2014 should they achieve their funding goal. Check out the video for a demo of how SITU works: Source: Coolest Gadgets Share This With The World!
