PlayStation Trophies Now Worth Meager Amounts of Cash

If you grew up playing video games, at some point or another you dreamed of getting paid to play games all day. Long before you were even aware that you actually can get paid for playing games (quality assurance, tournaments, etc), you fantasized about an existence where you could sit around playing games and someone would give you real world dollars. Well, I’m here to tell you that that dream is now a reality, provided the dream was of making very little money that you could only spend on more PlayStation games.

If you link your PlayStation account to your Sony Rewards account, you can now earn money by acquiring PlayStation trophies. The trophies earn you points, which can be redeemed for PSN money. A silver trophy will get you one point, a gold trophy will get you 10 points, and a platinum trophy will get you 100 points. 1,000 points will get you a $10 PSN voucher. So get grinding! You only need one thousand silver trophies for ten PlayStation bucks!

If you game a lot, and you’re good at it, you could very well end up with a free game or two. Fortunately for those of us who are not very good at achieving platinum trophies, the PSN store contains other things that are not as expensive as games, so everyone should be able to at least get something out of it. You’re going to be playing the games anyway, and most of us fall for the trophy trap, chasing those dopamine highs, so why not get a tiny bit of profit out of it? The program is only available in the United States, which has to be a bummer for all of the elite players in the other parts of the world that could really do some damage. Hopefully Sony will expand it to other territories.
