OCZ Demonstrates World’s First PCIe 3.0 Cloud-Optimized Storage Solution James White January 17, 2012 Press Release CES 2012 is not all about the coolest new hardware for your personal computer. This is a convention to show off all forms of upcoming technology including the ones built for other companies. OCZ unveiled a whole slew of cool items we will never own. In a push to improve cloud storage OCZ detailed a 16 Terabyte PCIe 3.0 SSD controller solution, new Indilinx controllers, and…huh? Yes I said 16 TB SSD with 1.4 million IOPS and 6.5 GB/s. Also derived from the Z-Drive R4 CloudServ RM1616 (the 16 TB SSD on a single PCIe 3.0 x 16 card) is the new Indilinux controller. OCZ’s new Indilinx controller should provide competitive speeds of 550 MB/s sequential read/write performance and 90,000 IOPS in random reads. This should provide an alternative to the Sandforce controllers dominating the market. Finally we get the update to the R4 Z-Drive in the Z-Drive R5. I bet you didn’t see that naming scheme coming! This drive is basically the future of the brand. It is the same basic system as the CloudServ RM1616, but with staggering numbers of 7.2 GB/s sequential transfers and 2.52 million IOPS. We will get smaller versions of the R5 and I am sure we will get the see the Indilinx controllers in action, just not on this scale.
