Now if the NZXT H2 (aka the Hush 2) arrived with a bang, then it wouldn’t be very silent now would it? This new chassis is a monumental improvement over their original “Hush” chassis which was the company’s first attempt at building a silent mid-tower case for the gaming market. And while that chassis was unique looking with it’s unique “robot eye” cut out, the overall quality was nowhere near the level set by their award winning Phantom Series.

Taking all that was learned from the successful Phantom ATX Chassis, many of the tool free features will look very familiar including the hard drive bays and the buckle-like lock downs for the 5.25 bays. To aid in security, the drive bays now have thumb screws which make the chassis a little more suitable for shipping and for transporting to LAN parties. The mid-tower chassis uses two front 120mm fans that are hot swappable using an ingenious cartridge-like design and is supported by an additional 120mm rear exhaust fan. There is also a cut out for one more additional exhaust fan at the top. There’s even enough room to accommodate monstrous CPU coolers like the Noctua NH-D14.

To aid in silence, the two door panels are lined in foam and the front door closes over the front to further reduce fan noise. Vents at the foot of the case still provide air flow to the intakes. The optional top fan also has a magnetic cover you can use to further block out noise. A fan controller at the top-front of the case further aids in your quest for a mix of silence and performance. USB 3.0 is also covered on the list of front IO ports and there is even a hot-swappable SATA drive bay at the top of the case, hidden underneath a door.

The NZXT H2 comes in both white and black and use a more business like durable matte finish and will retail for a reasonable $99 USD. I’ll be checking this case out for Futurelooks later this week. But in the meantime, check out the press release below and the gallery of pics.

NZXT H2 Classic Silent Chassis Establishes New Era ofWhisper-Quiet PC Gaming
Advanced noise dampening technology minimizes distracting hums, clicks, and whirls while maintaining effective airflow
El Monte, CA – March 22, 2011 – NZXT, a company built on realizing the dreams of gamers worldwide, is proud to announce the H2, a silent midtower chassis that drastically reduces the chaotic noise produced by powerful gaming PCs. In designing H2, NZXT’s challenge was to engineer a decibel reduction solution while allowing components to remain cool through effective airflow. To achieve these feats, the H2 implements a layer of premium noise dampening foam that keeps internal noise from escaping the chassis. A magnetic fan cover on the top 140mm fan adds another element of silence, but can be removed if the user prefers to maximize cooling.
Efficient airflow is further achieved with a unique 3 phase fan controller that allows enthusiasts to adjust speeds at 40%, 70%, and 100%. The removable touch powered fan compartments are wireless so there’s no need to open the side panel to rummage through neatly managed cables behind the motherboard to remove the fan. 8 Front facing HDDs give H2 a thermal edge over other silent solutions on the market by enhancing natural airflow in the front of the case.
Additional innovative features of the H2 include a hot swap capable SATA HDD Dock with easy access from the top of the case. As with every member of NZXT’s robust chassis lineup, H2 places a premium on cable management with 25mm of space behind the motherboard allowing for a clean build.
“Noise is a distracting byproduct of a powerful gaming rig that can confuse and endanger the avid gamer in the heat of battle” said Johnny Hou, Founder and Chief Designer at NZXT. “H2 delivers peace of mind through absolute silence effectively enhancing concentration and accuracy to set the stage for complete gaming domination.”
H2 will be available in Black and White for the MSRP of $99.99. For more information visit http://www.nzxt.com/new/products/classic_series/h2
