Nintendo Petitioned to Name Legend of Zelda Character After Robin Williams Dylan Duarte August 18, 2014 I think it’s fairly common knowledge, especially now after his tragic death, that Robin Williams’ daughter Zelda is named after Nintendo’s princess of the same name. I’ve heard varying reports on whether it was Robin or his son that chose the name, but either way Zelda Williams shares that link (see what I did there) with one of Nintendo’s most famous characters. Now fans are asking the company to return the favor. More than 100,00 people have signed a petition asking Nintendo to name a character after Robin Williams in the next installment of the Legend of Zelda franchise. The latest installment, Hyrule Warriors, was released in Japan on August 14 and is set to hit North America on September 26. One of the petition organizers suggests that Nintendo simply name a character “Robin” in the U.S. version of the game. Nintendo refused to comment on whether or not they’ll honor the request, citing a difficult time in the wake of Williams’ passing, but said that they hold their memories of the beloved actor close. Williams has appeared in several commercials for the company. Robin Williams was also known to play Blizzard’s World of Warcraft and the developer received a similar petition as Nintendo, which they plan to honor. via Wall Street Journal Share This With The World!
