Netflix/Disney Deal Goes into Effect in September Dylan Duarte May 23, 2016 News I don’t know if a lot of people remember this, but back in 2012 Netflix struck a deal with Disney to grab the streaming rights to their films in the same release window in which movies would normally go to premium TV channels. The deal wouldn’t go into effect until 2016, but what do you know – it’s 2016. Look at your calendar if you don’t believe me. Tucked into their latest blog post about upcoming content, Netflix confirms that the deal kicks off in September, making the streaming service the “exclusive US pay TV home of the latest films from Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm and Pixar.” In the four years since Netflix made this deal, the streaming market has only gotten more competitive. Many services have turned to original programming as a way to offer exclusive content, and while that’s certainly working, this Disney deal is a reminder that there is incredibly popular content out there up for grabs if companies are willing to pay for it. This is a huge win for Netflix. Share This With The World!
