NAIAS 2016: Luxury Sports Coupes of the Detroit Auto Show Michael Kwan January 13, 2016 News Some people have said that CES in Las Vegas is slowly turning into a car show in its own right with so much focus on the technology inside the vehicles that we drive. There’s some truth to that, but there is no bigger car show in North America than the one in Detroit and NAIAS 2016 was no exception. In particularly, we saw the unexpected rise of luxury sports coupes (along with luxury sports sedans) at the show. Three blokes from the Verge got together to discuss some of their highlights from in show. In particular, they chat about the Buick Avista concept, the Lexus LC 500 and the Infiniti Q60. One trend that you’ll really see emerge from vehicles like this is an extra wide stance with an extra wide grille and no shortage of creature comforts inside. You might remember seeing the new Acura NSX from last year’s Detroit Auto Show and now that has been followed up with what is almost a sedan-ized version called the Acura Precision Concept. It’s just a concept, but it’ll speak to the future of the Acura brand and how their cars are going to look moving forward. Hyundai also spun off its new Genesis brand to be its own version of Acura, Infiniti or Lexus.
