Must Have: Ferris Wheel Spice Rack

It’s no secret that I cook, right? I mean, I’m certainly not a chef, and I have had absolutely no training whatsoever unless you count Home Economics my freshman year in high school. But I do cook, and by all accounts I am pretty darn good at it. Which is one of the reasons you see so many kitchen gadget articles with my name on them. One of the things I cannot manage is my spice cupboard. It’s huge, and has pretty much anything I could ever hope to want (as well as several things I bought once and hated, but can’t make myself throw away). The trouble is, it’s virtually impossible to find anything in it. It’s in the corner. It’s dark in there. There is primarily one level shelf, with a tiny little shelf around the edge, and I lose things.

And then I’m scrolling through gadgets trying to find some things to write about, and the Ferris Wheel Spice Rack pretty much leaps off the screen, smacks my across the face, and yells, “Look! I am exactly what you have been waiting for!” Of course, I would need at least three of them, but I can work with that. It’s a big cupboard. Also, having several would allow me to sort by category, which would make me very happy.

OK, so really there isn’t a whole lot to this. The rack holds 15 different herbs and/or spices, three on each fin, five fins in all. It comes pre-filled, with your choice between “Spice Market” (Bay leaves, whole cardamom pods, cayenne pepper, Garam Masala, whole mustard seeds, sage, smoked paprika, chili flakes, mixed herbs, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, onion seeds, ground ginger, Herbs de Provence and oregano) and “India Spice Market” (Whole cumin seeds, whole coriander seeds, cayenne pepper, ground turmeric, cinnamon sticks, whole birds eye chilis, whole fennel seeds, whole cardamom pods, whole mustard seeds, whole fenugreek seeds, bay leaves, Garam Masala, bright red paprika and hot chili powder), but obviously you can fill it with whatever you want. They also offer a confectionery assortment with all the goodies you need for decorating cakes or cookies.

The jars are easily refilled, and each one has a pour/sprinkle lid. They are all clear, which makes it easy not only to see which spice it is, but how soon you have to buy more. The frame is made of hand-finished bamboo, and all the spices are sourced from the UK. All you have to do to find the one you’re looking for is give the wheel a spin, and you’re cooking. The rack measures 35cm tall x 30cm wide x 30cm deep.

Unfortunately, there is no word on pricing or availability, other than that UK customers will be able to get it with free shipping when it becomes available.
