Microsoft Took $900 Million Hit on Surface RT Sales Dylan Duarte July 18, 2013 Surprise! Nobody wants Microsoft’s Surface RT and the company took a $900 million hit because of it. It became pretty obvious that sales weren’t great when Microsoft decided to slash prices on all models. The official earning reports places the blame on Surface RT “inventory adjustments” and the loss comes out of the total Windows revenue, though that revenue still increased overall. It looks as if Microsoft overestimated how popular their tablet/laptop hybrid would be and simply produced too many units. A report came out last year that the company was shipping three to five million tablets in the fourth quarter alone and by March, they appeared to have sold only one million of those tablets. Microsoft didn’t divulge just how much they earned from Windows 8, but it must have been a good amount to offset the Surface RT losses. via The Verge Share This With The World!
