Microsoft Announces the Surface 2 with LTE for AT&T

It’s time for yet another announcement that will come as a surprise to no one thanks to a multitude of leaks already outing the product: Microsoft has officially announced the Surface 2 with LTE, which is being sold for a retail price of $679.

The Surface 2 LTE comes unlocked, so you can use it on any compatible GSM network, including AT&T. The pricing, which again was already known, is pretty surprising as it makes the product more expensive than a reasonably powerful desktop PC. Microsoft is obviously counting on the LTE capabilities to be popular enough to counteract that.

The Surface 2 LTE is available through Best Buy and, of course, the Microsoft Store. It’ll be interesting to see how many units Microsoft can move at this price. Despite losing money on the product, the Surface 2 sold enough units to mark clear progress for the Surface brand. Tablets with LTE have the capabilities to do well, so this could be what the Surface needs to really get a foothold in the market.
